In the decades between its thriving hippy scene in the 1970s and its current status as one of Spain's favourite gay resorts, Torremolinos saw the worst that uncontrolled development can do. However, in recent years the local authorities have been working and investing hard to upgrade the town. Its four beaches, linked by a promenade, are packed in summer; winter is calmer.
