Less than half an hour east of Malaga airport is Rincon de la Victoria, a "dormitory town" for Malaga, with the relatively tranquil atmosphere - for most of the year - of an overgrown fishing village. Rincon's big attraction is its lively sea front and beach. From the Moorish watch-tower on the westernmost cliff top the view sweeps down the sandy beach, past the blue and white fishing boats, beach fish restaurants and palm trees. Many Spanish families have second homes here. During July and August the place is loud and lively. Summer rental rates for holiday homes nudge those in glitzier Marbella - but fall away sharply in winter, when the Spanish holidaymakers pack up and leave, and the town becomes rather more laid back. Over the past few years, there has been some rapid apartment development and Rincon is expanding.
