Jimena de la Frontera is a historic town in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, at around 200m above sea level. The town was officially declared to be of Historic and Artistic Importance in 1983 and its typical Andalusian architecture of narrow cobbled streets and whitewashed houses is being carefully preserved. The countryside around Jimena contains hunting reserves and dense forests. You can climb up into the mountains, or dip down into the fertile valleys where the lives of the villagers follow the rhythms of orange farming. The peace of this traditional rural lifestyle is just 40kms from an upmarket swathe of coast that includes the well-established golf and polo developments of Soto Grande and San Roque. It's a fair haul from Malaga airport - Gibraltar and Seville are both closer - but Jimena is already a popular location for British homeowners.
